The character Tam was made to take part in tests conducted by the government, where she was trained as an assassin. Tam's control over her emotions was weakened as a direct result. Glau displayed her combat abilities as well as acting skills in Firefly. Glau had the ability to maximize her athletic capabilities because she had been trained as an assassin. Summer Glau is a classically trained ballerina. Her broken toe however that caused an end to her dancing career. Firefly was only on for one year, but built a loyal following. So passionate that Whedon went back to it a couple of years later. Summer Glau was still getting quality work in the interim.
